Choosing an Internet
home based business can often be quite a daunting task. However,
if done methodically can bring you a very good living
living.
It is not simply a
matter of selecting a few affiliate products and
people will flock to buy them. Anybody who is
contemplating starting an online business must be
prepared to put in some hard work both learning and
implementing new skills.
The first thing that
needs to be done is to think about, and then write,
a business plan. Anybody who is not prepared to do this
is treating their online business as a hobby and it will
always remain just that, a hobby.

- Do Not Go With A
"Gut" Feeling. It is amazing how many
times I see this in articles from people giving
advice on how best to start an online business.
Every successful business is a product of extensive
and continuous testing. Decisions are not made on
the way the chicken bones fall..
This is why I strongly advocate that people spend
their money on top quality, tried and tested online
marketing tools and resources to enhance their
business and therefore make money. Continually
spending $50 or $100 on the latest internet
marketing plan is sheer nonsense.
- Think about selecting
your own particular business niche. It doesn't have
to be something you are passionate about although it
can sometimes help, but it does have to be searched
for and profitable. Some business articles make
a big deal about being ultra passionate about your
topic when choosing a niche for starting
an online business but to me, if you are here
to build a business then find out what people are
willing to spend cash on and give it to them. It's
called research.

That may sound
a bit harsh but if you want to start an online business
then it means you have to sell something which is either
a product or service. It may be very nice to sell cute little
studded cat collars because you like cats but running a
business means you have to learn how to set up a store that
not only sells cute little studded cat collars but also blue
studded cat collars, red velvet cat collars, is a name tag
required with the collar or not and so on. It is, however,
important to believe in your product or service and know that
it has value for your customers.

Budget -
Know exactly how much you are prepared to commit to your
online business. Far too many people lose focus and
start impulse buying. There is not one single product
available in the entire Universe that is going to build
your online business for you in 2 days for $97.
I am spending over $1000 per month on top class
mentoring and resources. I mention this because it is
important to realize that there can be some very real
costs involved in running an Internet home based business
depending upon your goals. You do not need to spend
that sort of money initially. Most people are content to
build their online business gradually and learn over a
longer period of time.
Be aware that you will have to register a domain name,
pay for web hosting, subscribe to a good autoresponder.
Most of the professional marketing tools I promote can be
dispensed with initially as there are normally free
methods available but they are so time consuming.
As an example, if I am doing keyword research I
want something that will give me reliable information
about searches, results, PPC bids, PPC Ads, competitors
web sites and so on. I need this information fast so I use
professional software.
I could spend 8 - 10 hours researching key phrases
for a new niche I may be interested in but what an awful
waste of time when for a one off payment of around $150 or
so I have a professional tool that does the job better
than I ever could in about 20 minutes. As they say, work
smart not hard!
